김동연 경기도지사가 27일(현지 시각) 미국 보스턴에서 첨단 산업 분야 차세대 한인 리더들과 만나 협력을 제안했다. 김 지사는 대규모 투자 유치와 국제 외연 확장을 위한 미국 방문 첫 공식 일정으로 보스턴 공유오피스 '케임브리지이노베이션센터'(CIC)에서 '차세대 혁신 리더 간담회'를 열었다.
◆ AI혁신클러스터 소개하며 교류 제안
간담회에는 윤정효 노나테크놀로지 공동창립자, 이동엽 뉴잉글랜드 생명과학협회 보스턴 과학자 협회장, 이재교 하버드 의과대학 박사 등이 참석했다. 김 지사는 "경기도는 첨단 산업 분야에서 대한민국에서 가장 앞서 있다"며 "현재 판교 AI허브, 시흥 AI바이오, 부천 AI로봇, 하남 AI서비스, 의정부 AI제조, 성남 AI피지컬 클러스터 등 AI혁신클러스터 거점을 조성 중"이라고 소개했다. 그는 "판교는 4판교까지 계획하고 있고, 20곳 이상에 스타트업 허브도 만들고 있다"고 덧붙였다.
◆ 협업 애로사항에 "직접 소통하겠다" 즉답
데이터센터 사용수 재처리 장비를 개발하는 윤정효 노나테크놀로지 대표는 "경기도에 공장이 많아 수처리 기술 수요가 있을 것으로 보는데, 협업을 하고 싶어도 누구와 연결해야 하는지 접근이 힘들다"고 건의했다. 김 지사는 "제가 직접 다 하겠다"며 "경기도경제과학진흥원장에게 특별히 지시해 협업 관련 내용을 직접 보고받도록 하겠다"고 답했다. 우정훈 BW 바이오메드 대표가 경기도와 서울, 인천 송도 간 유기적 협업을 제안하자 김 지사는 "당이 달라도 개의치 않고 잘 협력하겠다"고 밝혔다.
이번 간담회는 보스턴 현지에서 활동 중인 차세대 한인을 만나 경기도와 협력 방안을 논의하고 한미 혁신동맹을 위한 의견을 청취하기 위해 마련됐다. CIC는 1999년 매사추세츠공과대(MIT) 졸업생 티모시 로우가 창업한 공유형 사무실로, 약 1만 1,000㎡, 5개 층 규모다. 한국보건산업진흥원 미국지사와 국내 바이오 기업 30개 사가 입주해 있다.

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with next-generation Korean leaders in high-tech industries in Boston, U.S., on the 27th (local time) and proposed cooperation. As the first official schedule of his U.S. visit to attract large-scale investment and expand international outreach, Governor Kim held a 'Next-Generation Innovation Leader Meeting' at the shared office 'Cambridge Innovation Center' (CIC) in Boston.
◆ Proposes exchange while introducing AI innovation clusters
The meeting was attended by Yoon Jung-hyo, co-founder of Nona Technology, Lee Dong-yeop, president of the Boston Scientists Association of the New England Life Science Association, and Lee Jae-gyo, PhD from Harvard Medical School. Governor Kim said, "Gyeonggi Province is the most advanced in high-tech industries in Korea" and "we are currently creating AI innovation cluster bases including Pangyo AI Hub, Siheung AI Bio, Bucheon AI Robot, Hanam AI Service, Uijeongbu AI Manufacturing, and Seongnam AI Physical Cluster." He added, "Pangyo is planning up to Pangyo 4, and we are creating startup hubs in more than 20 locations."
◆ Immediate response to collaboration difficulties: "I will communicate directly"
Yoon Jung-hyo, CEO of Nona Technology, which develops water reprocessing equipment for data centers, suggested, "There will be demand for water treatment technology as there are many factories in Gyeonggi Province, but it is difficult to access who to connect with for collaboration." Governor Kim responded, "I will do everything directly" and "I will give special instructions to the president of the Gyeonggi Institute for Economic Science Promotion to receive direct reports on collaboration-related matters." When Woo Jung-hoon, CEO of BW Biomed, proposed organic collaboration between Gyeonggi Province, Seoul, and Incheon Songdo, Governor Kim stated, "Even if the political parties are different, I will cooperate well without concern."
This meeting was arranged to meet next-generation Koreans active in Boston, discuss cooperation plans with Gyeonggi Province, and listen to opinions for the Korea-U.S. innovation alliance. CIC is a shared office founded in 1999 by MIT graduate Timothy Rowe, with a scale of approximately 11,000㎡ and 5 floors. The U.S. branch of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute and 30 Korean bio companies are located there.
