서울 대림동에서 무단횡단을 하다 경찰에 붙잡힌 70대 남성이 96억 원대 사기 사건의 지명 수배자로 밝혀졌다.

서울경찰청은 지난 20일 서울 대림동 왕복 4차선 도로에서 무단횡단을 한 70대 남성 A씨를 사기 혐의로 현장 체포했다고 밝혔다.

◆ 순찰 중 무단횡단 목격

순찰 중이던 경찰차 앞에서 A씨와 동행자가 무단횡단을 했다. 경찰이 차량 마이크로 정지 명령을 내렸지만 두 사람은 골목 안으로 달아났다.

경찰이 뒤쫓아가 신분 확인을 요구하자 A씨는 자신이 미국 시민권자라며 신분증 제시를 거부했다.

◆ 1년간 도피 중이던 수배자

서울경찰청 기동순찰대 김유찬 대원은 "10분 정도 계속 설득해서 그제서야 미국 여권과 신분증을 제시했다"고 말했다.

경찰 조사 결과 A씨는 1년 전부터 도피 중이던 지명 수배자로 확인됐다.

◆ 96억원 금 투자 사기

A씨는 2021년부터 2023년까지 "아프리카에서 금을 들여오는 데 투자하면 수익을 나눠주겠다"고 속여 292차례에 걸쳐 96억 원을 가로챈 혐의를 받는다.

서울중앙지검은 A씨에 대한 구속영장을 발부한 상태였다.

경찰은 A씨를 현장에서 체포해 구속 상태로 서울중앙지검에 신병을 인계했다.

Jaywalking Spotted During Patrol

Mr. A and his companion jaywalked in front of a patrol car. Police issued a stop command through the vehicle's microphone, but the two fled into an alley.

When police pursued and requested identification, Mr. A claimed he was a U.S. citizen and refused to show identification.

Fugitive on the Run for One Year

Kim Yu-chan, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Mobile Patrol Unit, said, "We kept persuading him for about 10 minutes, and only then did he show his U.S. passport and identification."

Police investigation confirmed that Mr. A was a wanted fugitive who had been on the run for one year.

9.6 Billion Won Gold Investment Fraud

Mr. A is accused of defrauding 9.6 billion won through 292 transactions from 2021 to 2023 by falsely claiming "if you invest in importing gold from Africa, I will share the profits."

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office had already issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A.

Police arrested Mr. A on site and transferred him to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in custody.
